Dry Rot Issues on House

Dry Rot is a fungus that attacks both soft wood and hard wood. It grows because of two things.

  1. There is not enough ventilation.
  2. There is high humidity.

Dry out will rot out the wood until it crumbles. It occurs when the moisture gets into the wood and the wood does not have time to dry up properly so it absorbs the moisture and slowly begins to rot.

Paint can be the first red flag to discover dry rot in your home. If you see a pattern of paint peeling off your walls, then there is a high probability that your wood could be damaged by dry rot.

Although paint is used for cosmetic reasons, its main purpose is to protect the surfaces from moisture, debris and other particles from permeating the wood/stucco surfaces.

Our Rayco ALLWEATHER PROTECTION SYSTEM allows our prep work to repair or replace any problem areas around the home. We will scrape any areas where there is bad (dry rotted) wood. We then fill those areas with wood-putty and then sand them so the areas match the consistency of the rest of the wood. In extreme dry rot cases, we will replace the wood assuming it is non-structural. We will then spot prime areas where there is bare wood and then put a 100% acrylic paint that will protect the surface for many years to come.

Going Green

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the air inside a home is, on average, two-to-five-times more polluted than the air outside. As the emphasis of environmental concern shifts from outside to inside, paint is a large contributing factor to poor indoor air quality and can emit harmful chemicals, such as VOCs, for years after application.
